English
From an early introduction to grammar, writing, and literature, the English program enables students to exercise the English language creatively. Grammar, composition, vocabulary, and literary analysis aid in developing competence that will carry over to all subject areas. Our Upper School courses emphasize a sound understanding of English through the study of literature according to type, theme, aspects, history, and great masterworks. Through word origin and continued grammar studies, essay and research paper writing, and vocabulary studies, students' personal expression and interpretation of literature are expanded, challenged, and encouraged.

Fine Arts
Fostering creativity through our fine arts program is accomplished by teaching students that man's creative spirit is integral to every aspect of daily life. MUS trains young men in practical technical skills that will encourage awareness, promote aesthetic and cultural understanding, and enable them to effectively communicate through non-traditional outlets.

Foreign Language
Reading, writing, speaking, and understanding a foreign language has always been a prerequisite for a well-rounded education, and in our ever-changing, ever-shrinking world it continues to gain importance. MUS foreign language programs allow students to choose French, German, Spanish, or Latin after studying Spanish and Latin in the Lower School.

History and Social Studies
As a true interdisciplinary field, social studies takes on politics, social structure, economics, and intellectual stimuli in the modern world. Young men are introduced to the historical forces that have molded our present day society. They gain insights into man's nature, his ideas, and his institutions. Students learn objective modes of inquiry, communication skills, and an appreciation for each culture's contribution to the world community.

Mathematics
Our mathematics program gives students the fundamental skills and concepts they need for the intelligent interpretation and appreciation of spatial and quantitative relationships. Upon graduation, students will be able to continue their studies on the collegiate level, in whatever field they choose. We identify students with unique talents or interests in mathematics as early as possible so they can move to an accelerated program.

Physical Education
Physical education is as much about the mind as it is about the body. Our program integrates a variety of well-planned activities to promote complete physical and mental development. In what has become an increasingly static society, we teach students to achieve fitness through knowledge while encouraging favorable attitudes for social development, increased movement, skill, and accuracy. We meet young men's recreational needs through class instruction as well as sports competition. All aspects of the curriculum are enhanced by our extensive facilities that include numerous playing fields, tennis courts, a modern weight room, and two gymnasiums.

Religion
Though we offer a variety of courses and methods, our religion instruction seeks to expose students to a formal study of the subject. More importantly, we want to encourage them to think deeply about the personal and social significance of religion. Studies focus on doctrinal, ethical, philosophical, and social issues of Western and Eastern religions from ancient to modern times.
